The Moving Wall Comes to Mint Hill

MINT HILL – The Town of Mint Hill will host The Moving Wall, a traveling, half-size replica of the Washington D.C. memorial to the 2.7 million men and women who served in Vietnam.

The wall will be on display from noon Oct. 10 to noon Oct. 14 at Veterans Park, 8850 Fairview Road.

"We are honored to have the opportunity to bring The Moving Wall to our town's citizens and the surrounding areas," Mayor Ted Biggers said. "We have many Vietnam Veterans in our community, and I believe they, along with their families, and members of the community and the surrounding area, will appreciate the chance to visit this beautiful tribute to those who sacrificed for our nation."

The Moving Wall has been traveling around the country for more than 30 years. For Mint Hill to host The Moving Wall is a big deal, according to Commander Mike Stubbs.

"The name, The Moving Wall is inspirational, it's a moving experience, especially for our Vietnam Veterans. So many will find closure at the Wall." Stubbs said. "It's an incredible feat for it to be able to travel around for so long. So many wonderful people have already volunteered, but we still need more. We are also accepting donations to help with the cost of hosting the wall here."

It costs money and requires several volunteers, not only to keep it moving but to keep it open round the clock for public viewing once it is on display.

Visit movingwall.minthill.com to volunteer. Contact town staff at 704-545-2335 or mailto:themovingwall@minthill.comto donate.
