06.09.2020 Message from Mayor Brad Simmons
Mint Hill Residents,
As many of you know, there is a peaceful protest scheduled for Wednesday, June 10 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in front of Town Hall. This event is not sponsored by the Town, but the organizers have our full support.
Our hearts go out to all who suffer from systemic racism. A dismissive remark, thoughtless joke or biased statement can create a culture of prejudice at home and in the workplace. We must work harder to educate each other about the subtle ways we mistreat each other. We must teach our children, employees, and elected officials that any form of racism will not be tolerated.
There have been a lot of conversations on social media over the past few weeks. I encourage you to take these conversations offline. Have a face to face conversation with your family, co-worker, or neighbor. Tell them how what is happening in the world makes you, as a person, feel. Take that passion and send a letter to our legislative leaders and let them know we will not stand for systemic racism. Educate yourselves on the candidates and their beliefs prior to the November election.
To the planners of this event, thank you for your willingness to organize a peaceful demonstration. Thank you for igniting a conversation. We will continue to support peaceful protests while ensuring the citizens of Mint Hill are safe. We need to keep talking and to keep voting until those in power are willing to listen.
I look forward to seeing all of you on Wednesday. I strongly encourage you to wear a mask to help alleviate the spread of the COVID-19.
Mint Hill Mayor
