Mint Hill, NC

Citizens Academy

Have you ever thought that you would like to learn about law enforcement or how certain aspects of policing are managed and the reasons behind them?  If you answered yes, then you have found the right place to begin your journey of an up-close detailed view of police work by attending the Mint Hill Police Department's Citizens Academy.

The Citizens’ Academy is a firsthand, interactive, behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of the Mint Hill Police Department and criminal justice system.  This 12-week educational series of classes is taught by experienced police officers and other officials who share their unique perspective on policing in our modern-day society.

Topics included in the academy range from criminal law and procedure to patrol operations, investigations, and the canines. Participants will also experience simulated scenarios based on situations that police officers often encounter requiring split-second decisions. These classes enable participants to develop an understanding of law enforcement procedures, responsibilities, and law.

Mint Hill Police Department will be hosting the next Citizens Academy in the spring of 2024.  Class begins Thursday, March 7th at 6:00 PM.  Applications are due by February 16th, 2024.

If you are interested in participating in our next academy please fill out our online application here Citizens Academy Application, or contact the police department for an application.  The department holds up to two academies per year that consist of 12 evening sessions.
