In August 2009, the Town of Mint Hill started a town-wide Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) project. The CLUP addresses land use structure, parks and open space needs, utility needs and transportation needs. The last CLUP was completed in 2000 and plans are generally updated every ten years. The CLUP is a broad plan that is intended to guide land use and zoning decisions over the next ten years through 2020. The CLUP process includes numerous public meetings and workshops to seek input and garner support from citizens and business owners.
The Town has hired HNTB of Charlotte to assist the Town with the creation of the 2010 CLUP. HNTB has assisted numerous towns in the Charlotte region create plans for future growth. The planning process is based on the Scenario Planning concept that creates a few different concepts based on public input and narrows down the best scenario through public involvement with the elected officials and town staff.
